Apex Legends looks set to receive cross platform progression after all, according to an update from developer Respawn.
Although the addition of cross platform play has long been discussed, and a Beta of said feature is due to kick off with the upcoming Aftermarket Collection Event, the idea of including cross progression has been dismissed since launch.
Producer Drew McCoy said at the time that “due to the way systems were set up early on we can't reconcile it after the fact."
However, in a blog post detailing the impressive feature set of the cross play beta, Respawn mention that “Cross-play does not mean cross-progression. While we do believe this is a valuable feature, it’s unfortunately not available for Apex Legends at this time. However, we will talk more about this at our Steam launch later in the year”.
This is a huge shift in messaging, and a very exciting prospect for fans clamouring to bring their progress and purchases with them across different devices.
Apex Legends is available now, free to play, on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with Steam and Switch releases due before the end of 2020.
