BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL 2

CREATE A CHARACTER - Jade was a brilliant protagonist in the original. Intelligent, non sexualised, and with a clear mission. It seems that there’s a lot of emphasis on shaping elements of your own story in BG&E2; I hope that extends to character customisation. A full suite of options to tailor your appearance and attributes would be amazing.

SEAMLESS COMBAT - The first Beyond Good and Evil focused on melee combat, and separate vehicle sections. However, the sequel should push the envelope here, by seamlessly bringing different weapons and fighting styles into play. A skill tree that allows you to double down on a particular approach (say ranged over close quarters) would make a nice addition.

RETAIN CO-OP PROGRESSION - If I visit a friend, with my ship and character, I should be able to bring that progress home.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is a dream come true. A big budget open world sequel, leveraging the power of current gen hardware to potentially deliver on the untapped promise of the beloved original. At the same time, Ubisoft haven’t exactly blown the lid off this new title, with only fleeting glimpses of super early footage and some fairly impressive CG trailers. We know that you’re a pirate of sorts, exploring a dense solar system with your crew of misfits. We know Jade (protagonist from the first game) makes an appearance, in some capacity. Beyond that (sorry), details are scarce. Vague mentions of seamless space to surface transitions, vast environments with procedural elements, and a heavy focus on RPG-esque character customisation have kept fans guessing ever since the surprise reveal at E3 2017.

HAND CRAFTED LEVELS - Despite its modest size, the original Beyond Good and Evil featured densely packed environments begging to be explored. All this talk of procedural generation and vast open spaces for the sequel is exciting, sure, but I hope we don’t sacrifice tailor made quests and locations for the sake of pushing technical boundaries.

TAKE YOUR TIME - There’s an argument to be made that the pre-Alpha footage was made available too early. The initial sneak peaks were pretty rough, and could easily put off players not willing to look past the distinct lack of polish. Ubisoft need to let this one cook, and avoid any more grand showings (CG or otherwise) until they’re ready.

MAKE IT MODERN - Don’t punish players for breaking stealth. A ‘Game Over’ for getting seen shouldn’t make the final cut.

Jade’s return is very interesting, considering the prequel status of the… sequel…

BUILD-A-HIDEOUT - Your main frigate acts as your home base, and allows you to interact with your crew and deploy smaller, faster vessels for interplanetary engagements. However, it would be amazing if you could construct makeshift bases, No Man’s Sky / Fallout style, in a remote corner of a planet or moon, which friends could visit to escape the authorities.

SEW THE SEEDS - You’re about a 1/3 of the way through the story. Another mission, another planet. Only this one is different. You’re tasked with building the lighthouse orphanage from the first game, setting up that narrative and providing a touchstone to the original. Oh, and then follow that up with episodic DLC to the original and address that cliffhanger ending. Yeah? Thanks Ubi.

MAKE SHIGSY HAPPY - Beyond Good and Evil 2 should basically be Animal Crossing in space. Tom Nook works for the Dom’z.

THE BASICS - Open world third person action adventure, with RPG elements, and a mix of handcrafted and procedurally generated environments.

PLATFORMS - PS4, XB1, and PC

PLAYERS - Offline - 1, Online - (Yes, player count TBC)

CO-OP? MULTIPLAYER? - Full campaign co-op has been revealed, although no word on any competitive modes.

DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT - None announced.

PIPE DREAMS? - This is an opportunity for us to dream big, with a wish list of features and ideas for brand new game announcements, as well as debating the possibilities of how a series could evolve in the future. Sometimes we’ll even speculate and pitch ideas for games that haven’t been formally revealed. The Crystal Ball section is for potential gameplay mechanics, and things we’d like to see. Toxic Waste is a cautionary list of things to avoid, and Hail Mary is a collection of wild theories and/or ridiculous ideas that probably won’t be in the game… but it’s fun to dream big!
