MOOD SWINGS?

Besides being the obvious side effect to a hormonal outburst, ‘Mood Swings’ is an editorial crafted by our editor Jay Tee, alongside contributions from the team. It’s like a series of extended tweets, ranting or raving about something terrible / great that has happened in the world of gaming. It’s a collection of random musings designed to provide a snapshot of what we’re doing, things you should be excited for, and stuff to avoid as you navigate the choppy waters of this wonderfully unpredictable hobby.

Anything, from reactions to a new game announcement, surprising breaking news, to “our cat just nibbled our thumb sticks”, can be found here. We try to be as honest as possible, sharing our gut reactions to stuff that has occurred  in the last twenty four hours.

ZOMBIE ARMY 4: DEAD WAR - With battle passes, microtransactions, and loot boxes dominating the headlines (typically with a negative connotation), it’s refreshing to see a team like Rebellion take a fair and reasonably priced approach to post launch support. The Season Pass for Zombie Army 4 features a defined set of add ons, with the associated value clearly indicated, alongside a number of free drops and updates that will appear alongside their premium counterparts. It’s transparent and fair, offering players decent value and some interesting new bits and pieces. Each new campaign level will be structured into multiple chapters, much like the base game, ensuring decent value across the board. We’re impressed!

This doesn’t end well for captain eyeball.

2K AND NFL - This one certainly piqued our interest. 2K have secured a multi year publishing deal with the NFL, to develop *non simulation* based games with franchise branding. Given their dominance in the NBA space, and EA’s ongoing efforts with Madden, this is a very interesting move. And in a slice of “insider” observation (I’m clearly not as important as this makes me sound), EA sent through a press release clarifying their ownership of simulation based NFL titles minutes after 2K’s own announcement landed in our Inbox. Clearly this has rattled their PR team enough to feel the need to get ahead of any potential negativity, and speaks to a potential reshuffling of more licenses as next gen approaches.

CALL OF DUTY: WARZONE - Literally the worst kept secret in all of gaming, and the most leak-tastic release of all time, has finally dropped. Activision’s standalone, free to play Battle Royale title, Call of Duty: Warzone, is now out in the wild. Owners of the most recent Modern Warfare title got a head start on the action, but our biggest takeaway is that, once again, Infinity Ward have dropped another gargantuan title update to cater for this new release. The constant stream of hefty downloads has been a frustrating experience since launch, with patches being deployed with reckless abandon. Don’t get me wrong - supporting a game with a player base this large is important and appreciated, but c’mon! Better file size compression wouldn’t go amiss!

ZOMBIE ARMY 4: DEAD WAR (PS4, XB1, PC)

There is some American Football action happening here. Clearly, I’m an expert. Look at them go!

MADDEN NFL 20 (PS4, XB1, PC)

Stop. Releasing. Massive. Patches. PLEASE. My harddrive is weeping.
