Take me to the Dark Place.

NOTE: thatHITBOX Shout Out’s are not sponsored content. They’re games, developers, individuals, or issues that we want to highlight and share purely out of interest.

Now the Remedy Connected Universe is a thing, there’s little point in trying to guess the narrative direction Alan Wake 2 is going to take, but one thing remains constant: those wizards at Remedy know how to deliver unhinged undertones and a creepy rug pull. Their Gamescom trailer was jam packed with live action shots of their titular writer in distress and a whole mess of unsettling imagery. They’re leaning in to the survival horror angle in a big way, and even though we shouldn’t be speculating, I’m convinced the Hiss from Control is pulling the strings.

It’s a testament to the depth of the world they’ve built, and the fondness for the original that has endured all this time, that Alan Wake 2, of all games, was a Keighley closer. Geoff set the expectations that it was going to be a check in for updates and gameplay reveals presentation, and less about mega tons. One would imagine that’s cooking for The Game Awards 10th anniversary in December.

The countdown to October 27th continues. Shout out to Remedy for continuing to produce such technically proficient and well written teases for a game that is easily one of our most anticipated for the year.

TARPS?

At the bottom of some of our articles, you’ll see a series of absurd looking images (with equally stupid, in joke laden names). These are the TARP badges, which represent our ‘Totally Accurate Rating Platform’. They allow us to identify specific things, recognise positive or negative aspects of a games design, and generally indulge our consistent silliness with some visual tomfoolery.
