APEX LEGENDS: MIRAGE’S HOLO-DAY BASH
Start the party.

Apex Legends is a force to be reckoned with in the battle royale scene. Despite a painfully expensive implementation of micro transaction purchases, the core gameplay offering continues to go from strength to strength. Respawn closed out 2019 with another special holiday event, centred around everyone’s favourite humility lacking mercenary, Mirage. A limited time game mode, map changes, and skins aplenty are packaged into this update, and we couldn’t be happier with the end result.

“In much the same way as the Shadowfall LTM, Winter Express is a zippy and relentless slice of Apex Legends action, that places a tighter emphasis on quick reactions and spatial awareness. It may take a couple of rounds for everything to fall into place, but it still remains one of the better experiments that Respawn have patched in.

Of course, limited time modes have a tendency to introduce map changes to the main experience, and we can say that Mirage's hovering party ship (aptly named the "Mirage Voy'age") is absolutely brilliant. It's totally in keeping with his well established ego-centric and self deprecating humour, but beyond the Jacuzzi and homages to Titanic, the design work here is very impressive. The whole thing feels fresh and custom built, without reusing existing assets.”

Well check you out, Mr. Fancypants. It takes a real man to rock holographic emitters and a seasonal outfit.

The Mirage Voyage is a hot drop zone so prepare yourselves for some frantic encounters. Winter Express is a cool addition.

Most of the regular cast of characters are rocking some new, context specific dialogue, but Mirage is the star of this show.

Although Winter Express won’t be sticking around, it certainly is fun while it lasts. Hears hoping future updates will be the same!

Apex Legends has always been a great looking title, and the design work on Mirage’s floating party extravaganza is impressive.

THE LAST WORD

Mirage’s Holo-Day Bash is one of the best updates yet for Apex Legends.

THE FINAL SCORE
